Thomas Kent Hinckley was a professor of Geography at Brigham Young University from 1972-1994. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from Brigham Young University in 1958, his Master's of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and his Doctorate from the University of Western Ontario. Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
